The responsibility for conducting the election process lies with the Elections Body (O.D.E.), for monitoring the election process of the Director, the Director of the Sector is appointed, provided that he/she is not a candidate himself, in which case the supervision of the election process is undertaken by his/her legal deputy, if any, otherwise the most senior faculty member serving in the academic unit. After the deadline for submitting candidacies has expired, the O.D.E. checks the candidacies that have been submitted in order to determine whether each candidate meets the eligibility requirements and there are no impediments to eligibility. After completing the check, the O.D.E. announces the candidates and draws up a single ballot that includes in alphabetical order the candidates for each office or for each advertised position. A brief CV of each candidate may be posted on the website of the AEI or of the individual academic unit concerned by the electoral process, if it exists, if the candidate so wishes.
A university clinic is considered autonomous when a minimum of five (5) faculty members of any rank have been appointed and serve in it. If the university clinic is autonomous at the time of the announcement of the elections, the electoral body for the election of the Director is composed of all the faculty members appointed and serve in it. If the number of faculty members serving in a university clinic is less than five (5) at the time of the announcement of the elections, the electoral body for the election of the Director is composed of all the faculty members of the academic unit to which it belongs. Those who are on suspension of duties or on unpaid leave in accordance with paragraph 2 of article 40 of Law 4957/2022 are excluded.
Full-time faculty members of the rank of Professor or Associate Professor who have been appointed and serve in the university clinic and have the same or a related field of study as that of the clinic are eligible to apply for the position of Director. Those who leave the service due to reaching the maximum age limit during the term for which the position is advertised are not allowed to apply for the position of Director of the university clinic, unless there is only one (1) faculty member serving in the clinic or there is no other candidate. By decision of the Assembly, following the opinion of the Department, a Professor or Associate Professor with less than three (3) years remaining until his retirement may apply for the position of Director of the first paragraph. Holding the position of Director of the university clinic is not incompatible with holding another position of a single-member administrative body of the Higher Educational Institution (HEI) or participating as a member in collective bodies of the HEI.»
If there are no candidacies during the election process or the sole candidate is not voted for by at least one third (1/3) of the members of the special electoral body participating in the vote or the Director of the university clinic resigns or disappears for any reason, by decision of the Senate, following a recommendation from the competent collective body of the academic unit to which the university clinic belongs, the Dean's Office, the Department Assembly or the General Assembly of the Sector, a new Director of the university clinic is appointed, who is by priority at the rank of Professor, and if there is none at the rank of Associate Professor. In the first two (2) cases of the first paragraph, the appointment of the Director of the university clinic is for a full term, while in the third and fourth cases, his appointment is until the end of the term of office of the Director who resigned or ceased to exist for any reason.
A full-time member of the Teaching and Research Staff (T.E.P.) at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor is elected as Director. The term of office of the Director is three years. The re-election of the same person to the position of Director of a university clinic is permitted without limitation of terms. The person who obtains the absolute majority of the valid votes of the members of the electoral body or at least one third (1/3) of the valid votes of the members of the special electoral body, if there is only one candidate, is elected to the position of Director of the Clinic. If there is a tie or no candidate has obtained the absolute majority, the vote is repeated on the next working day between the candidates who obtained the same votes or occupied the first (1st) and second (2nd) places. In the event of a new, inconclusive election, the election shall be repeated on the next working day, at which time the candidate who obtains the relative majority of valid votes shall be elected. If there is a tie, a drawing of lots shall be held by the presiding officer in front of the tied candidates.
If the university clinic does not have any faculty members at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor, the Senate may exceptionally appoint an Assistant Professor who serves at the university clinic until the date of appointment of a faculty member at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor. In this case, within a period of four (4) months from the exceptional appointment of a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor as Director at the university clinic, elections shall be announced in accordance with the procedure of par. 5, in which faculty members at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor of the same or related subject to that of the university clinic who come from the School may be candidates. The process is repeated until the Director's position is filled by a faculty member at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor.
The head of the academic unit supervises the conduct of the vote, issues the election results, announces the elected Director and sends the election minutes to the Rector of the University. After the completion of the election process, the Rector issues a certificate of election, which is posted in the "DIAVGEIA" program.
