The Intensive Summer School for Autoimmune Liver Diseases and Familial Cholestatic Syndromes at the Medical School of the University of Thessaly was successfully completed.

With particular success and significant participation of young doctors from Greece and Cyprus, the Intensive Summer School for Autoimmune Liver Diseases and Familial Cholestatic Syndromes in adult patients was held on June 26 and 27, 2026, at the facilities of the Medical School of the University of Thessaly (UTH) in Larissa.

The educational event was organized by the Greek (Government Gazette 4040/5-11-2019 and Government Gazette 3504/7-7-2025) and European Center of Expertise (EC Decision 26-11-2021) for Autoimmune and Rare Liver Diseases of the Department of Internal Medicine of the University of Thessaloniki.

The Summer School was addressed to 40 selected residents and new specialists in Pathology and Gastroenterology from Greece and Cyprus, who had the opportunity to attend a comprehensive program of theoretical and clinical training, focusing on the most modern developments in the diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune liver diseases and familial cholestatic syndromes.

The Summer School Education Officers were: Professor George N. Dalekos and the Professor Irene I. Rigopoulou, who, together with their team, contributed decisively to the formation of a program of high scientific level.

Participants had the opportunity to attend specialized lectures, participate in interactive discussions of daily intractable clinical cases of patients, get to know the laboratory, and exchange experiences and knowledge with the entire scientific team of the Department of Internal Medicine of the University of Thessaloniki. The active participation of the trainees and the high quality of the presentations highlighted the importance of continuous education and specialization in diseases whose delayed or non-diagnosis can have devastating consequences for patients and their families.

The successful organization confirms the leading role of the Pathology Clinic of the University of Thrace in the promotion of scientific knowledge, specialized education and clinical excellence, as well as the international recognition of the Center of Expertise as a point of reference for autoimmune and rare liver diseases.
