As part of the guest speaker lectures of the Laboratory of Medical Informatics and Biomedical Imaging Applications (LIMA), we have the special honor to host our colleague and good friend Professor Christos Davatzikos from the University of Pennsylvania.
The lecture will take place on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at 4:00 PM, in Amphitheater 1 of the Medicine building (Biopolis).

Short Biography
THE Christos Davatzikos is the Wallace T. Miller Sr. Professor of Radiology & Electrical and Systems Engineering at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, as well as Director of the Center for Biomedical Image Computing and Analytics (CBICA), and Artificial Intelligence in Biomedical Imaging Lab (AIBIL).
He completed his undergraduate studies at the National Technical University of Athens in 1989 and his PhD at Johns Hopkins University in 1994, on a Fulbright scholarship. After his PhD, he joined the faculty of Radiology at Johns Hopkins University, where he founded and directed the Neuroimaging Laboratory. In 2002, he moved to the University of Pennsylvania, where he founded and directed the Biomedical Image Analysis Unit.
He is considered internationally one of the pioneers in the field of medical imaging and computational neuroimaging, as his research work extends across the entire spectrum of medical image analysis, from fundamental algorithmic approaches to image pattern analysis and machine learning, to their application in a multitude of clinical studies concerning aging and Alzheimer's disease, neuropsychiatric disorders, as well as brain cancer.
He has served on numerous scientific journal and funding organization boards. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, and a member of the Council of Distinguished Investigators of the American Academy of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging Research.
He has been honored with the NIA Nathan Shock Lecture Award (2024) and the DeLeon Senior Scientist Award at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference (AAIC) in 2025, for his publication in Nature entitled “Brain aging patterns in a large and diverse cohort of 49,482 individuals.”
