Gender Based Violence Roundtable: Athens, April 6, 2024
HelMSIC, in the framework of the project "How to Treat your Patient: Advocacy to combat gender-based violence", organizes the Gender Based Violence Roundtable, a pan-Hellenic lifelong one-day roundtable with the central theme of advocacy to combat gender-based violence. The round table will be held on April 6 at the "Alkis Argyriadis" amphitheater of EKPA (30 Panepistimiou) in Athens, at 11:00 am. and is open to everyone, with the aim of highlighting the gravity of the phenomenon, formulating proposals to strengthen the National Health System and the Medical Education Curriculum and the interaction of agencies and organizations active in the fight against gender-based violence violence.
The roundtable will take place in a hybrid format with electronic monitoring and transmission that will be shared on HelMSIC's Social Media.
How to treat your Patient: Advocacy against gender-based violence is a project aimed at highlighting the phenomenon of gender-based violence from the perspective of providing health care to victims of gender-based violence and in particular the need to train medical students and health professionals in the context this. The project is supported by the Empowerment Program of Civil Society Organizations active in the field of Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment, which was designed and implemented by Social Dynamo, the NGO Hub of the Bodosaki Foundation.
HelMSIC, as an organization representing medical students at the pan-Hellenic level, condemns all forms of gender-based violence, as the abuse of individuals based on gender violates fundamental rights and individual freedoms, undermining their safety and freedom, as well as that of the entire society. Combating gender-based violence and ensuring substantial gender equality should be a matter of highest priority for the State.
Medical care structures are usually the first sheltered environment in which a person who has suffered abuse will find themselves, while at the same time, incidents of gender discrimination are often reproduced within the same structures. For this, HelMSIC recognizes the integral role of health professionals in addressing gender-based violence, defending the rights of all patients and providing the right health services.
