Teaching Method: a) The theory of the course is available in the form of recorded lectures in the e-class of the course. These lectures fully cover all the material of the course and focus on what the student should know. Based on these lectures, which are primarily based on the syllabus given to the students, the course exams will be held.

B) The clinical exercise which is 14 2 hours will be done in small groups of 5 people. These groups will also do clinical exercises outside the morning hours in order to ensure the quality of the clinical exercises, which is completely dependent on the number of participating students.

C) The lessons from the auditorium are a total of 14 2 hours. Of these 10 2 hours are compulsory. The purpose of these courses will be the presentation of cases and differential diagnosis with interactive discussion with the students.

Evaluation Method: Written final exam, of graded difficulty, including multiple choice questions based on the lessons posted in the e-class.

Objective Objectives/Desired Results: The general purpose of the course is the theoretical and practical training of medical students in the field of Pediatrics, providing students with basic knowledge of this field, regardless of the future specialization that each doctor will have.

The specific objectives of the course are specialized in the following intended learning outcomes:

  • Learning how to take and write a pediatric history
  • Conducting a comprehensive physical examination across the entire age spectrum of pediatrics
  • Evaluation of common symptoms that have basic pediatric diseases
  • Evaluation of laboratory and imaging tests
  • Ability of diagnostic approach and differential diagnosis

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to to use the acquired knowledge in order to:

  • be able to obtain a detailed pediatric history
  • have the ability to comprehensively present the medical history
  • have the ability to perform a physical examination on pediatric patients of all ages
  • to have the ability to synthesize and analyze information for the purpose of differential diagnosis
  • to make use of classic and new diagnostic methods
  • to select the clinical laboratory test required for the patient's diagnostic approach
  • to be able to evaluate the outcome course of the disease

Course Description:

Course Description / Content: Thematic modules included are:

• Rheumatic diseases of childhood. Rheumatology assessment, Henoch-Schönlein purpura, Kawasaki disease, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, juvenile dermatomyositis, musculoskeletal pain syndromes
• Infectious diseases. Evaluation of infectious diseases, fever without focus, infections characterized by fever and rash, skin infections, lymphadenopathy, meningitis, encephalitis, upper respiratory tract infections, pharyngitis, parasinusitis, otitis media, otitis externa, croup, pertussis, bronchiolitis, pneumonia, infective endocarditis, acute gastroenteritis, viral hepatitis, urinary tract infections, osteomyelitis, infectious arthritis, zoonoses and vector-borne infections, parasitic infections, tuberculosis.
• Hematology. Evaluation of hematopoietic system, anemia, hemostatic disorders
• Oncology. Oncology Evaluation, Leukemia, Lymphoma, Central System Tumors, Neuroblastoma, Wilms Tumor, Sarcomas
• Nephrology and urology. Evaluation, nephrotic syndrome and proteinuria, glomerulonephritis and hematuria, hemolytic uremic syndrome, acute and chronic renal failure, hypertension, vesicouretic reflux, congenital and developmental anomalies of the urinary tract, other disorders of the urinary tract and genital tract
• Endocrinology. Endocrinology Assessment, Diabetes Mellitus, Hypoglycemia, Short Stature, Adolescent Disorders, Thyroid Diseases, Parathyroid Disorders and Bone Mineral Endocrinology, Sexual Development Disorders and Adrenal Dysfunction
• Neurology. Nervous System Assessment, Headache and Migraine, Convulsions, Weakness and Hypotonia, Ataxia and Movement Disorders, Impaired Level of Consciousness, Neurocutaneous Disorders, Congenital Central Nervous System Disorders
