Face to Face/distance learning.

Teaching of Pharmacology II consists of lectures and seminars/tutorials. Attendance of Seminars is compulsory.

MANDATORY ATTENDANCES -LECTURES Workshops

Information and Communication Technologies are used for the preparation of the lecture material, the online information and provision of supplementary learning material to students.

Specifically:

• Common software (e.g., MS powerpoint) is used to prepare lecture material and display slides and videos.
• The study guide (detailed supplementary material & additional bibliography), the tutorial material (clinical cases), the theory and protocols of the laboratory exercises, the slides of each lecture as well as relevant videos and scientific articles made available electronically and online to students through the e-class system of our university.
• Common software (e.g., MS excel) is used to statistically process student assessment.

Announcements, information etc are available online via e-class. Communication is also done via e-mail.

The language of assessment is Greek/ English for ERASMUS.

The final grade of the course is the grade of the written exams.

Aims of the course

The objective of this course, which is a continuation of BASIC AND CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY: INTRODUCTION-NEURAL SYSTEM, is for the student to become familiar with and learn: basic groups of drugs, their mechanisms of action, their indications and contraindications, their interactions, their basic side effects, and the mechanisms leading to them. The student will be exposed to and learn about drugs related to diseases of other systems of the human body and the field of chemotherapy. As part of the students’ immersion in the field of chemotherapy, several relevant workshops are also held. The purpose of the laboratory rotations is to expose students to research, particularly the translational research required for drug discovery and development. By attending and successfully completing this course, the student will have a very good understanding of pharmacology and its role in clinical practice.

 Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to

– Understand the mechanisms of action of the major drug classes,

– Have knowledge of the major classes of drugs

– To distinguish their indications and contra-indications, their interactions, their main adverse effects,   and the mechanisms leading to them.

– Use their knowledge to make decisions about the correct choice of drugs

– Analyze the mechanisms that lead to adverse reactions

– Understand the process of drug discovery and development

– Become familiar with and learn the fundamentals of translational research necessary for drug  discovery and development
