Written exams (20 multiple choice questions to be answered within 120 minutes). The general assessment criteria are analyzed during the introductory course. |

Objective Objectives/Desired Results: |
The general purpose of the course is to introduce students to the basic knowledge of nutrition, contemporary nutritional problems and their familiarity with the assessment, methods and indicators of human nutritional status for the early recognition of nutritional risk and the process of nutritional care .
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Uses the appropriate tools to detect nutritional risk.
- Makes nutritional decisions for the treatment of patients.
- Search, analyze and synthesize nutritional data and information, using the necessary technologies.
- To participate in the nutritional assessment.

Section 1
Introduction to nutrition and nutritional concepts
Lifestyle medicine and the role of nutrition in primary and secondary prevention
Contemporary nutritional problems in the community, childhood and older adults
Section 2
Food supplements
Documented nutrition
Nutritional assessment of patients using anthropometric, clinical and nutritional indicators
Malnutrition risk investigation and nutritional risk detection with screening tests
Assessment of nutritional needs and nutritional status of patients
Somatometric methods for assessment of nutritional status of patients
Methods for calculating energy needs in patients as well as assessment of energy needs in hypercatabolic diseases
Education with nutritional assessment in case-studies of patients

Interaction of Nutrition and Disease. Modification of metabolic patterns (stress, sepsis, hypercatabolic states)
Introduction to the nutritional care process. Designing appropriate diets and modifying patients' usual diet to meet their needs.
