TEACHING AND LEARNING METHODS :

FACE TO FACE – LECTURES

Microsoft software (PowerPoint) is being used, for the courses lectures.

The Library has all the necessary books and reading material for the course. Additionally, the students have access to international databases (PubMed) via the library.

All class lectures are performed by using PowerPoint presentations. These lectures are all uploaded to the medical school and the University of Thessaly websites (e-class) with free access to the students. Thee-mail of the course director and the faculty can be used for communication purposes between teachers and students, and the students are encouraged to use this method of communication. Also, information or announcements about the course will be posted to the websites of the medical school and the University of Thessaly with free access from the medical school students.

METHODS OF EVALUATION:

A. Clinical practice: Continuous assessment

The students’ involvement in clinical practice is under continuous assessment. The successful completion of the clinical practice is certified by the teacher’s signature.

B. Theory – Lectures: Continuous assessment without formal final exams

Entitlement to exams have the students that have successfully completed the clinical practice and haveattended all the necessary number of lectures (2 total absences).

The final grade comes out of the continuous assessment considering the whole student’s performance during lectures and clinical practice.

Students are given in writing the evaluation criteria during the first lesson.


Objective Objectives/Desired Results:

Description of the level of Learning Goals according to the Qualifications Framework of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA): The students, after successful examination, they have proven knowledge and understanding of topics of the subject of ALGOLOGY AND PALLIATIVE CARE(PGSP). Skills and knowledge acquired are Level 6 (1stCycle of Studies) of the European Qualifications Framework (EQF).

After successfully completing the course the student will have knowledge and understanding of the following subjects:

The student should be able to recognize clinical pain syndromes, approach a patient in pain, suggest simple treatment protocols, know and manage the complications of pain treatment, know alternative pain therapies, know how to prescribe and how to provide palliative care and psychological support to the patient and his/her family.
