Evaluation Method: Final written exam which takes place at the end of the semester. The final written assessment is based on the texts and terminology taught during the semester.

The evaluation process of the course is done in French, it is jointly decided with the students in the first courses.

It is, however, possible for students to submit, in consultation with the teacher and under her supervision, a written exculpatory paper on a topic that is defined jointly.


Objective Objectives/Desired Results: The objectives of the course are:

  • the development of appropriate language skills (vocabulary & grammatical-syntactic structures) to understand basic French terminology for everyday medical issues,
  • the understanding of the meaning of medical terms based on the recognition of the prefix, root and suffix of a word,
  • familiarizing students with terminology related to the basic anatomy of the human body and its basic functions and
  • familiarizing students with the basic medical terminology of biology, biochemistry and physics.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Understands and uses the syntactic and grammatical structures of the French language.
  • Understands and uses basic health-related vocabulary.
  • Understands simple medical texts.
  • Observes and understands the anatomical projection of various systems.
  • Understands the meaning of medical terms by recognizing the prefix, root and suffix of a word.

Title: General presentation of the human body
Objectives:
Introduction to the course
I recognize and become familiar with the prefix, root and suffix of a word
I observe and understand anatomically an image of an organ or system
I am familiar with observing an anatomical drawing
I am learning medical French terminology related to the general presentation of the human body

2nd Unit
Title: From the cell to the system
Goals
I observe and annotate the anatomical projection of the cell
I am learning medical French terminology related to the anatomy of the cell and its basic functions
I understand and/or enrich the subject-related syntactic and grammatical structures of the French language

3rd Unit
Title: The circulatory system
Objectives:
I observe and comment on the anatomical view of the circulatory system
I am learning medical French terminology related to the anatomy of the circulatory system and its basic functions
I understand and/or enrich the subject-related syntactic and grammatical structures of the French language

4th Unit
Title: The respiratory system
Objectives:
I observe and comment on the anatomical projection of the respiratory system
I am learning medical French terminology related to the anatomy of the respiratory system and its basic functions
I understand and/or enrich the subject-related syntactic and grammatical structures of the French language

5th Unit
Title: The digestive system
Objectives:
Nutrition and health
I observe and comment on the anatomical projection of the digestive system

6th Unit
Title: The musculoskeletal system
Objectives:
I observe and comment on the anatomical projection of the musculoskeletal system

Title: The urinary system

Title: The endocrine system

13th Section
Title: Biology, biochemistry and physics in Medicine
Objectives:
I familiarize myself with basic terminology related to the above sciences
I read and understand a blood ionogram
Repetitive lesson in the taught material of units 6 to 13. Preparation for the exams
