Extension of the deadline for Program applications for Sports and Education
After requests from interested parties, we announce extension of applications until Sunday 26 May for the "Sports and Education Programme: from Ancient Olympia to the present".
The program, which is offered free of charge, will take place in Olympia from July 9 to 12 and is open to students from all departments of Greek universities.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
The Center for Greek Studies of Harvard University in Greece and the USA, the International Olympic Academy and the Region of Western Greece, in collaboration with the University of Patras and the Stark Center for Physical Culture and Sports of the University of Texas at Austin and with the support of AEGEAS AMKE, announce the organization of the action for 2024 "Sport and Education Program: from Ancient Olympia to the Present" (Sport and Education Program: from Ancient Olympia to the Present).
The program will take place from 9 to 12 July 2024 at the premises of the International Olympic Academy - IOC in Ancient Olympia (https://greece.chs.harvard.edu/events-conferences/sport-education-program).
The Program will host professors from US and Canadian Universities as well as sports professionals and will accept up to 35 participants. It is open to students of Greek Universities who are in the third year or more of their studies at undergraduate level, as well as at postgraduate and doctoral level. Prospective students who are involved in sports or have an interest in sports are welcome.
In addition to people studying in Greece, the program will also host students from North American universities.
It will be held in English and is based on the highly successful cooperation of the institutions and the important academic legacy of the series of Symposia on "Sport, Society and Culture" held in previous years by the Center for Hellenic Studies of Harvard University in Greece and the USA and the International Olympic Academy. The program will bring together a broad body of students and educators in Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games, to examine how sport shaped ancient models of knowledge and how, in turn, the ancient sport-knowledge complex known as " education', served as a model for modern universities and professional sports.
The Program is offered without any financial or other burden, while the Organizers offer free accommodation and half board at the DOA facilities in Olympia. In addition, free bus travel is offered from Athens to Olympia on July 9 and from Olympia to Athens on July 12 (with intermediate stops in Patras for participants from Western Greece, Epirus, etc.).
Students will receive a certificate of participation at the end of the program.
The selection of the people who will participate will be done through a submission and evaluation process applications (https://forms-greece.chs.harvard.edu/sport-education-program-application/).
The application process will open on Thursday, April 11, 2024, and will close on Wednesday, May 15, at 11:59pm.
Letters of recommendation must be sent by Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 11:59 p.m.
The selection process will be completed by June 10 and the selected students will receive a notification by email.
