STUDENT EVALUATION

At the completion of the course a written multiple question test is administered for the student’s evaluation.

Objective Objectives/Desired Results:

The lesson is consisted of a series of ten 90-minute lectures. During each lecture, a clinical scenario (brief history, symptomatology & semiology, and physical examination info) is given to the participants. In an interactive way, the necessary imaging and laboratory exams are outlined and reviewed for this specific clinical scenario, and the relevant diagnostic algorithm is discussed. Each participant goes through the initial management of this case, as well as the final treatment of this patient, while instructive videos are provided and each intervention is properly justified, and is thoroughly discussed.

General Abilities

The course examines the main pathological conditions affecting the nervous system and constitutes a smooth introduction to the specialty of neurosurgery. Moreover, it provides the student with a survivor guide for managing acute situations during internship or early residency. After successfully completing the course, the student will be able to:

  • Understand the anatomical and pathophysiological basis of the commonest neurological diseases
  • Perform an accurate and detailed neurological examination
  • Differentiate between acute and elective neurological conditions
  • Understand the diagnostic approach of patients with acute neurological conditions
  • Familiarize herself/himself with available treatment options for acute neurological conditions
  • Understand the reasoning of managing these conditions and develop her/his own strategy
