Objective Objectives/Desired Results:
The general purpose of the course is: • students’ understanding of the importance and clinical contribution of the History ofMedicine • the student will acquire fundamental knowledge in the History of Medicine and will studyand understand the medicine of the most important cultures, the course of medicine throughthe centuries as well as the effects of the respective social conditions and beliefs in thedevelopment of medicine Finally, the aim of the course is for the students to understand the importance andcontribution of the History of Medicine as an independent scientific field. • Informing the student about: 1. Medical evolution through time 2. History of Medical Specialties 3. History of the Diseases 4. Biographies of Medical Doctors 5. History of Medical Institutions Upon successful completion of the course, the student will have: • Understand the scientific field of the History of Medicine • Know the necessary fundamentals in the History of Medicine • understand the medicine of the most important civilizations, • understand the course of medicine through the centuries • gained knowledge about the effects of the respective social circumstances and beliefs on the development of medicine
